Bismarck, N.D. – Graduates of the 2025 Bismarck Citizen Academy were recognized at the Bismarck City Commission meeting held Tuesday evening at the City/County Building in the Tom Baker Room.

The Citizen Academy is a 12-week program aimed at providing participants with a deeper understanding of the operations of city government and how it serves the community.

The program, which typically accepts applications in November, offers participants an in-depth, hands-on experience with various city departments.

Over the course of the academy, participants learn about the functions of 14 different city departments, tour municipal facilities, and gain insight into the daily workings of city services.

This year’s class of 20 participants includes residents, business owners, and students from Bismarck. As part of the program, participants are also introduced to opportunities for greater civic involvement.

They are encouraged to engage with local government advisory boards, commissions, and other platforms for community participation.

In addition to learning about the city’s operations, participants have the chance to connect directly with community leaders such as the Mayor, City Commissioners, and Department Directors.

These interactions provide a valuable opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in local government and gain insight into the decision-making processes that affect the community.

The Bismarck Citizen Academy aims to foster transparency, knowledge, and engagement within the local community, helping to strengthen the relationship between residents and their local government.
