MINOT, N.D. – The Minot Magicians took to Corbett Field for a non-conference doubleheader against fellow WDA heavyweight Williston on Tuesday. The last time these two teams were competing, Minot was runner up at the 2019 state tournament while Williston earned fifth place.

This time around, Minot won the first game of the double dip in a high scoring affair 18-8. The Magicians got off to a roaring start, posting three runs in the first, five in the second and nine more in the third to take a 17-1 lead over the stunned Coyotes. In the fourth, Williston answered back with seven runs of their own, but Minot went on to win comfortably in five innings.

All told, the Magicians produced 14 hits compared to eight for Williston. Sophomore designated hitter Eli Nissen went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Rightfielder Trent Greek also made his presence felt in the lineup with a 3-for-3 outing which included a home run and three runs batted in.

Meanwhile, Minot catcher Kellan Burke contributed with a 3-for-4 afternoon and two RBIs with two runs scored. Leadoff man Chase Burke set the table for the offense with five runs scored while going 2-for-2 and knocking in a pair of runs. On the mound, Tyler Buchanan started the ballgame and was credited with the victory.

In the second contest, Minot’s offense continued its onslaught and scored runs in all five innings en route to another 18-8 triumph. The Magi posted a run in the first, five runs apiece in the second and third, four runs in the fourth and three more in the final inning. Collectively, Minot accounted for 11 hits compared to eight for the Coyotes.

Nissen again enjoyed a perfect game at the plate, going 3-for-3 while driving in a pair of runs, Greek went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and shortstop Hunter Ruzicka went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in. Much like the first game, Chase Burke was effective getting on base in the leadoff role and scored five runs for the Magicians.

Up next on the schedule, Minot plans to travel to Bismarck for a double header with the Century Patriots on Thursday.
