North Dakota – The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) announced that fall mowing operations along state highways will begin in early to mid-September. The work is intended to prepare roadways for winter and help minimize drifting snow.

Landowners planning to mow non-interstate ditches for hay are encouraged to do so before the state begins its mowing. Private mowing is not permitted in medians of four-lane highways.

State law requires hay bales stored along the right of way to be placed on the outer edge and prohibits large round bales on inslopes or within 60 feet of the roadway. All hay stored on the right of way must be removed by Nov. 1.
