North Dakota – The North Dakota Department of Transportation has released its final 2026–2029 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), outlining four years of planned transportation projects funded through federal highway and transit dollars.
The STIP includes improvements to state and county highways, urban streets, roadway safety features, bikeways, and public transit programs across North Dakota. According to the department, the document serves as a comprehensive guide to how transportation funds will be invested statewide over the next four years.
The final STIP is available online at the NDDOT website under the “Construction & Planning” section and “Transportation Plans & Programs.” Printed copies are also available at NDDOT district offices, and individual copies may be requested from Michael Wilz with the NDDOT Programming Division.
In addition to releasing the finalized plan, NDDOT is seeking public input as it begins preparation of the 2027–2030 STIP. Public comments regarding future transportation projects will be accepted through February 10, 2026.
Urban area transportation programs for Bismarck–Mandan, Grand Forks–East Grand Forks, and Central Dakota are being developed by local Metropolitan Planning Organizations, while the Fargo–Moorhead program is being prepared by the local Transportation Management Area.
Residents with comments or suggestions for future projects are encouraged to contact their district engineer, county engineer, Metropolitan Planning Office, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, or another appropriate agency. NDDOT officials stated that reasonable accommodations, including accessible meeting facilities and language interpretation services, are available upon request for individuals with disabilities.
