Bismarck, N.D. – The City of Bismarck has announced that spring load restrictions for 2025 will be lifted on most roads and streets within city limits beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6. These restrictions are put in place each year to protect the integrity of roadways during the spring thaw, when pavement is more vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles.
Although most streets will no longer be subject to seasonal limits, year-round 6-ton load restrictions will remain in place on specific roads. These include Airway Avenue between Airport Road and Northern Plains Drive, as well as Burnt Boat Drive from Broadview Lane to Clairmont Road. These streets are subject to ongoing limits due to their design, traffic patterns, or surface conditions.
City officials have emphasized that the Public Works Department will continue to monitor street conditions, and additional restrictions may be implemented if necessary. The city reserves the right to make changes based on road preservation needs or unexpected deterioration.
With the lifting of spring restrictions, transportation and construction operations are expected to resume more normal activity across the city. However, all drivers and commercial vehicle operators are encouraged to remain aware of posted signage and any updates issued by city authorities to avoid penalties or road damage.
