North Dakota – Drivers in Williston should prepare for temporary traffic pattern changes beginning Wednesday, June 4, as part of the ongoing U.S. Highway 2 improvement project. The adjustments are expected to last for approximately one week and are necessary to facilitate manhole work and continued reconstruction at a key intersection.
The temporary changes will affect both eastbound and westbound traffic near Williston Square:
-
Eastbound U.S. 2:
-
The dedicated right-turn and through lanes will be closed.
-
All eastbound traffic will be funneled into a single lane, from which drivers can proceed straight, left, or right.
-
-
Westbound U.S. 2 (southbound at the intersection):
-
The right-turn and through lanes will also be closed.
-
All southbound traffic will move through a single lane that allows all turn movements.
-
According to officials, the changes are required to complete critical underground infrastructure work, including manhole modifications, and to install traffic control systems for the next phase of intersection reconstruction.
Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and reduced traffic flow through the area. Traffic control signs and on-site guidance will be in place to assist drivers in navigating the adjusted routes. Despite the lane closures, access to local businesses and residential areas will remain open during the construction period.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation encourages drivers to exercise caution and reduce speed while traveling through the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and fellow motorists.
Further updates will be provided as work progresses.
