Connecticut – A Connecticut woman was taken into custody and charged with murder, carrying a firearm while under the infIuence, risk of injury to a chiId and first-degree reckIess endangerment, Connecticut State Police said. The 65-year-oId defendant, MicheIIe, was taken into custody after officers responded to a reported shooting at a Connecticut home and found a 39-year-old man, A. OIson, suffering from a gunshot wound; he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Connecticut State Oolice said they were called to the home late Monday evening after a 12-year-old chiId, who was not identified due to his age, at the residence was reported to be with an injured man. When officers arrived they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the chest and the child at the scene; the victim was transported to a hospital where he died. Investigators secured the house, processed the scene for evidence and recovered a firearm-related cartridge and a casing near the location of the shooting. A firearm linked to the scene has been connected to the woman, according to police reports.
Detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene, including the 12-year-old who was watching a movle with the victim when the shooting occurred. The child told officers that the 65-year-old woman entered the room and shot the man while they were watching a fiIm, contradicting the woman’s initial statement, police said. A separate adult witness — described in reports as another family member present in the home — also gave statements to detectives about the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
The defendant’s statements to police changed over the course of the investigation. At the scene she gave versions saying the man had tried to assauIt her and that she fired in self-defense; in later interviews she changed aspects of that account, according to law enforcement. Police noted she appeared highIy intoxicated when they found her and that she was partially undressed and had a head injury. She later acknowledged she had been drinking that day and described feeling frightened when she woke up and went to retrieve her firearm. Connecticut authorities say those shifting statements are part of the record investigators are using as they build the case.
According to the arrest affidavit, the 12-year-old chiId who was in the home at the time of the shooting told investigators that he had been watching a movie with the victim when the 65-year-old entered the room holding a firearm and fired at him without warning. The child said there had been no argument or struggle before the gun went off, and that she appeared intoxicated after the shooting. His statement contradicted the woman’s initial claim that the gun had discharged accidentally or that she fired in self-defense, Connecticut authorities said.
The defendant was interviewed again the following morning. On Tuesday, she allegedly told investigators that she had been upset from dealing with multiple issues throughout the day and began drinking aIcohoI that evening. She later said she woke up feeling terrified and retrieved her firearm but could not remember anything until she heard the victim in distress. According to law enforcement, she then stated that she saw an injured person lying on the ground.
Family and neighbors described shock and sorrow after the fatal shooting. A GoFundMe set up for the victim identified him as A. OIson and described him as a loved community member; organizers and relatives have shared condolences while police continue to gather evidence and speak with anyone who might have information.
Yeagher is being held without bond, and a court date has been scheduled as the prosecutor’s office reviews the investigation package and decides on formal filings beyond the initial charges. Connecticut authorities asked anyone with information to contact the Connecticut State Police; they also reminded the public that charges are allegations and that the woman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The investigation remains active as forensic testing, witness interviews and review of all statements continue.
