Bismarck, N.D. – The Bismarck Police Department has announced upcoming archery proficiency testing dates through Bismarck Animal Control ahead of the City of Bismarck Archery Herd Reduction Season.

Officials said participants must demonstrate accuracy by shooting four of five arrows inside a nine-inch circle at 20 yards at the NISHU Outdoor Range elevated platform. Successful applicants will receive a proficiency card valid for three seasons, which is required for eligibility to obtain a trespass permit.

Three testing sessions are scheduled for May, with additional details provided for a first-come, first-served issuance of 20 trespass permits set for June 19, 2026, at the NISHU Indoor Range.

City officials noted that the City of Bismarck and Burleigh County herd reduction programs operate separately, and county permits require private landowner permission outside city limits. Only selected permit holders will be allowed access to city property.

Residents seeking more information were directed to contact Sgt. Tim Bleth or Herd Reduction Manager Logan Woodcock through the department’s listed phone extensions.
