Bismarck, ND – A crash involving two vans and a semi truck left six people seriously injured and nine others with minor injuries Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 22 in Reeder. Many of those injured were children.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when a semi truck traveling south on Highway 22 lost control, sliding through the intersection and jackknifing. Two vans, both carrying children, were unable to stop in time to avoid the semi. One van collided with the truck, while the other rear-ended the trailer being towed by the first van.
The force of the crash resulted in multiple injuries. Six people, including children, sustained serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals. Nine others, also including children, suffered minor injuries but were treated at the scene or taken to local medical facilities for further evaluation.
The names and ages of the victims have not been released, and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Weather conditions and road conditions at the time of the crash have not yet been confirmed as factors.
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash,” said NDHP spokesperson Sergeant Luke Edwards. “Our thoughts are with those who were injured in this incident, and we are working to piece together what led to this terrible collision.”
Local authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution on roads, especially during the winter months when ice and snow can create hazardous driving conditions. The intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 22, a known route for both local traffic and commercial vehicles, remains under investigation as law enforcement works to determine what led to the tragic events.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of the crash, residents and officials are offering support to the victims and their families.
More details will be provided as the investigation continues.
